Ilaythalapathy Vijay's "Theri" has turned out to be the biggest hit of his career. The Tamil film, which completed its 75-day run in theatres recently, has made a record-breaking collection at the worldwide box office.

The makers have reportedly revealed in a press release that "Theri" has made a collection of Rs. 150+ crore at the global box office. "Vcreations confirms officially #Theri Collection as 150 Cr+. #Kabali - 200 Cr+ for sure #EntireTNWaiting, [sic]" trade tracker Sathish tweeted.

"Theri" was released on April 14 for the Tamil New Year. On the release day, it earned Rs. 13.1 crore in Tamil Nadu alone and collected Rs. 28.96 crore from the worldwide box office. It ended its first weekend at Rs. 85.36 crore.

The Vijay-starrer was welcomed with fairly positive reviews and it was believed that the collection might drastically drop following a fantastic opening weekend. But it proved the predictions of trade experts wrong by remaining stable at the collection centres.

The underlining part of its success is that "Theri" has not just performed well in its home territory of Tamil Nadu but also in neighbouring state Kerala and in overseas centres like Malaysia, the U.S., the U.K. and France.

The success of "Theri" has helped Vijay to return to his good form after his disastrous "Puli," which had bombed at the box office last year.

"Theri" is an action-thriller, written and directed by Atlee Kumar. The Kalaipuli S Dhanu-produced film has Samantha and Amy Jackson playing the female lead roles. The good story and the fantastic performance of the Ilayathalapathy are the highlights of the film.
