Sholay
Gabbar Singh spoils the Holi celebration in the movies Sholay by attacking the Ramgarh villagers.

"Sholay" which was re-released in 3D version on Friday did pretty well on Monday, compared to other release "Mr Joe B Carvalho".

The classic raked in ₹1 crore on Monday, taking its overall total to ₹7.30 crore.

"#Sholay3D Fri 1.50 cr, Sat 2.25 cr, Sun 2.55 cr, Mon 1 cr. Total: ₹ 7.30 cr nett. India biz only," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The film, which was released in limited screens, did not see a huge drop in business on Monday. The film should take its first week total to around ₹9 to ₹10 crore.

"The occupancy in my cinema halls was less on Friday, but it picked up on Saturday and Sunday and dropped again on Monday. Only those who are very nostalgic about the film are coming to watch it," Mid-Day quoted Manoj Desai of G-7 multiplex as saying.

Meanwhile, last week's other release "Mr Joe B Carvalho" has bombed at the box office. After raking in around ₹2 crore from its opening weekend, the film minted just ₹30 to ₹35 lakh on Monday.

The film will continue to fall during the weekdays and will complete its first week at around ₹3.25 to ₹3.50 crore. In several cinema halls across the country, regional films have replaced "Mr Joe B Carvalho".

The comedy, which features Soha Ali Khan, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaffrey, opened to mixed reviews from critics. Directed by Samir Tewari, the film is produced by Bhola Ram Malviya and Shital Malviya.
