CV Kumar's Maayavan and Aditi Balan's Aruvi have ended the first weekend on a high note. The two newly-released Tamil flicks have outperformed Hollywood film Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the Chennai box office.

Maayavan has collected Rs 79.03 lakh at the Chennai box office in its first weekend, reports Behindwoods. It has garnered fairly positive reviews. Interestingly, Aruvi has done well despite having no big names in the cast.

In the first weekend, Aruvi has collected Rs 72.21 lakh from 156 shows at the Chennai box office. With highly positive reviews coming in for the Tamil film, it is expected to do well in the days to come. However, Sivakarthikeyan's Velaikkaran is releasing this week which might affect the newly-released Tamil flicks.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has received a warm reception from the audience. In the first weekend, it has raked in Rs 58.96 lakh from 105 shows.

Sibiraj's Sathya has raked in Rs 34.55 lakh from 117 shows. The 10-day total collection of the flick stands at Rs 1.39 crore. Another Hollywood film Ferdinand has collected Rs 16.16 lakh from 63 shows, newly-released Tamil film Palli Paruvathile has earned Rs 13.25 lakh from 54 shows and Sasikumar's Kodiveeran has collected Rs 12.80 lakh from 42 shows to take its total tally to Rs 2.11 crore in Chennai.

Bramma.com and Hindi film Fukrey Returns are in the next two positions by collecting Rs 10.95 lakh from 57 shows and 5.58 lakh from 24 shows, respectively. Newly-released Chennai 2 Singapore is in the 10th place in the capital city of Tamil Nadu by collecting Rs 5.15 lakh from 36 shows.

Amala Paul's Thiruttu Payale 2 entered its third weekend by collecting Rs 2.57 lakh from 24 shows to take its total to Rs 2.07 crore and Karthi's Theeran Adhigaram Ondru has collected Rs 2.31 lakh from 21 shows to take its total tally to Rs 5.99 crore.
