Dhanush's latest movie Kodi has come out with flying colours at the Chennai box office and has beaten Karthi's Kashmora in the first weekend. Both the new releases dominated the collection centres in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

Kodi had 342 shows in the first weekend, from which it has minted Rs 1.34 crore, reports Behindwoods. It is considered as a good opening for a Dhanush film. After getting a decent start, the Kollywood film enjoyed good viewership on Saturday and Sunday, say trade reports.

On the other hand, Kashmora had lesser shows in Chennai compared to Kodi. Hence, the movie has raked in Rs 1.12 crore from 288 shows. This film too has got a good opening and enjoyed good occupancy rates for the prime-time shows in Chennai.

Both the movies have garnered good word-of-mouth. And considering the holiday weekend, the movies are expected to do well at the Chennai box office.

Bollywood movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has opened well in Chennai as the movie has collected Rs 43.25 lakh from 174 shows. Ajay Devgn's Shivaay has garnered an average opening by raking in Rs 20.25 lakh from 108 shows. It has to be seen how the the Hindi films perform in the days to come in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The performance of other new Tamil release Kadalai was not up to the mark. The movie has earned Rs 2.16 lakh from 18 shows.
