Vikram's "Iru Mugan' has been grandly welcomed by the Chennai cine-goers as the movie has got a good opening. The Tamil flick has also beaten a few movies, including Bollywood flick "Baar Baar Dekho" in the four-day first weekend in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

"Iru Mugan" has minted Rs. 2.24 crore from 396 shows in Chennai, reports Behindwoods. It is declared as a fantastic opening for a Vikram movie. The film had however registered an average response for its advance booking, leading trade experts to be sceptical about its fortunes at the box office.

Moreover, "Iru Mugan" opened to mixed reviews and many believed that the movie might tank at the box office. Surprisingly, the business of the Tamil flick picked up on Saturday and Sunday. Hence, the movie has ended its first weekend on a high note.

"Baar Baar Dekho" has opened well in Chennai as the Bollywood movie has earned Rs. 26.02 lakh in the first weekend. Hollywood movie "Don't Breathe" has entered its second weekend and has made a collection of Rs. 15.42 lakh in its second weekend. The 10-day collection of the film stands at Rs. 68.21 lakh.

The business of "Kidaari" was affected by "Iru Mugan" and the Sasikumar-starrer earned Rs. 12.58 lakh from 78 shows, to take its total tally to Rs. 1.77 crore. New releases like "Vaaimai" has raked in Rs. 17.17 lakh and Hindi film "Freaky Ali" has collected Rs. 10.51 lakh in the opening weekend.

Vijay Sethupathi's "Dharmadurai" has collected Rs. 3.33 lakh in its fourth weekend to take its total tally to Rs. 3.56 crore. "Kuttrame Thandanai" has collected Rs. 2.95 lakh to take its 10-day total tally to Rs. 49.28 lakh and the business of Bollywood flick "Akira" was not up to the mark in its second weekend. The total collection of the AR Murugadoss-directorial stands at Rs. 49.54 lakh.
