Hollywood movie "The Conjuring 2" has emerged victorious at the Chennai box office. In its opening weekend, the film has raked in Rs. 98.27 lakh in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

"The Conjuring 2" had 207 shows in Chennai in its first weekend from which it earned Rs. 98.27 lakh, reported Behindwoods. The good pre-release hype and the success of its earlier instalment helped the film to pull audience to the theatres in big numbers.

The major advantage that "The Conjuring 2" had was no big banner Tamil films were released recently. Hence, the movie enjoyed good occupancy in Chennai.

Previous-week release "Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran" has performed well after having an average first weekend. The Tamil film has earned Rs. 43.94 lakh from 162 shows to take its 10-day collection to Rs. 1.35 crore.

Latest release "Oru Naal Koothu" has collected Rs. 26.69 lakh from 108 shows. The film has opened to fairly positive reviews and is likely to do well at the collection centres in the coming days.

The business of much-hyped "Iraivi" has completely slowed down as the film failed to make good collection in its second weekend. After minting Rs. 78.47 lakh from 204 shows in its opening weekend, the film collected Rs. 20.36 lakh from 111 shows to take its 10-day tally to Rs. 1.53 crore.

Bollywood film "Te3n" has raked in Rs. 11.84 lakh from 63 shows, while Akshay Kumar's "Housefull 3" has earned Rs. 6.59 lakh from 42 shows in its second weekend to take its 10-day collection to Rs. 46.87 lakh.

Telugu film "A...Aa" has earned Rs. 5.35 lakh from 33 shows to take its 10-day collection to Rs. 33.77 lakh and Silambarasan's "Idhu Namma Aalu" has collected Rs. 3.78 lakh from 30 shows. The total collection of this flick by the end of third weekend stands at Rs. 2.83 crore.
