Sundar C directorial "Aranmanai 2" and Madhavan starrer "Irudhi Suttru" have got a fantastic start at the Chennai box office, while the collection of "Rajini Murugan" has continued to be good in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

In the first weekend, "Aranmanai 2" minted Rs 1.12 crore from 225 shows, reports Behindwoods. The industry had predicted that the Tamil movie would set box office on fire, given the response the film received for its advance booking. The good word-of-mouth played a major role in its success.

The other release "Irudhi Suttru" starring Madhavan and Ritika Singh too emerged victorious. From 198 shows, the Tamil film raked in Rs 67.19 lakh and the positive word-of-mouth backed by good reviews from the critics ensured the flick does good business at the Chennai box office.

Pongal release "Rajini Murugan" is in the third position and the Tamil flick earned Rs 34.71 lakh in its third weekend from 150 shows. The total collection of the movie by the end of its third weekend stands at Rs 3.34 crore in Chennai. It has to be noted that this film has done such good business inspite of two new films that garnered good reviews.

Bollywood film "Airlift" starring Akshay Kumar has done good business in its second weekend by collecting Rs 21.01 lakh from 75 shows. The total collection of the film stands at Rs 79.29 lakh.

Vishal Krishna's "Kathakali" is in the fifth position by minting Rs 4.62 lakh in its third weekend and so far, it has raked in Rs 1.39 crore in Chennai. Sasikumar's "Tharai Thappattai" has minted Rs 2.83 lakh to take its total tally to Rs 1.70 crore.

Udhayanidhi Stalin's "Gethu" has completely slowed down at the collection centres as the movie could only make Rs 2.60 lakh from 39 shows. The total collection of the film stands at Rs 1.14 crore.
