Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp enjoyed a satisfying return to Borussia Dortmund as his new side frustrated his former charges and claimed a valuable away goal to draw 1-1 in their Europa League quarter-final, first leg on 7 April. Klopp, whose seven-year Dortmund spell ended last season, was warmly welcomed back to the Westfalenstadion and enjoyed his night as Liverpool took a first-half lead through Divock Origi before Mats Hummels levelled after the break.

Klopps return was always going to be an emotionally-charged occasion for the Liverpool boss and the Dortmund fans, whose affection for their former coach, who delivered two Bundesliga titles, remains undimmed since his departure. After the match, Klopp said he was satisfied with parts of his teams performance and it was good to get an away goal.

Klopp said at a post-match press conference: I think our organisation was good. We were brave, good organised, disciplined, everything good. And around the 0-1 to be honest we were brilliant. We had a few really good moments, played direct football, showed what we are capable of.

I think it was very important for us to show this Liverpool faith. I think a lot of people thought a lot of things about our probable or possible performance, and maybe they are a little bit surprised. And I am really happy with the performance. But away goal is good, it is better than a 0-0, 100% better, he added.
