Veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha was rushed to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri on Monday afternoon after he complained of breathlessness. Sinha developed a respiratory problem following some ongoing painting work at his residence that morning.

"Sinha was admitted in the hospital around Monday afternoon and medical test revealed the actor had a severe respiratory allergic reaction because of the painting work. He was brought in with serious breathing problems and chest Physician Dr S P Rai is treating him," Dr Ram Narain, Chief Operating Officer of the hospital, said in a statement.

"The appropriate treatment is being given to the actor and he is improving. His condition is stable now and will be here overnight," Narain added. The doctor did not confirm as to when the actor would be discharged following his treatment.

The 66-year-old actor's wife Poonam Sinha, and his twin sons Luv and Kush were present at the hospital.

Meanwhile, his 25-year-old daughter, Sonakshi Sinha, took to Twitter and confirmed that the actor is doing healthy and fine.

"Making moutains out of mole hills (baat ka batangadh) about someones health is NOT cool. My father is hale and hearty and waiting for me at HOME and not in the icu as some people are claiming on tv right now. Thanks for the concern, but pls... KHAMOSH!!" Sonakshi tweeted.

Sinha recently shifted to his new seven-storey building "Ramayan" which is still being done up. The actor had supposedly developed a breathing condition as a reaction from the paints used in the interiors of the house.

Popularly known as Shotgun or Shatru in the film industry, the actor began his film career with Mohan Sehgal's Sajan in 1969.

Last month, Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati hospital following some health conditions. The actor has been undergoing treatments for the past eight days.
