BlackBerry is finally bringing its first Android-powered Priv smartphone to India this month. The Canadian smartphone-maker has sent invites for the launch event in New Delhi on 28 January.

BlackBerry's invite confirms the event is being hosted to launch the Priv in India, after it was unveiled in October and went on sale in the US and Canada in November last year. BlackBerry Priv's specifications are already official, but some details such as the price and availability of Priv in India are still under wraps.

"Please join us for the India unveiling of the Priv, the secure smartphone powered by Android," the invite reads, according to India Today.

In terms of specifications, BlackBerry Priv features a 5.4-inch Quad HD AMOLED display with 2560x1440 pixels and 540ppi. It is powered by a 1.8GHz 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable memory.

BlackBerry Priv sports 18-megapixel sensor with dual LED flash on the rear and a 2MP front-snapper. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based handset has a 3,410mAh battery and supports 4G LTE and a single slot for a nano SIM card. Touted as the "world's first BlackBerry secure smartphone powered by Android", Priv has the company's exclusive DTEK warning system app for privacy.

The design of BlackBerry Priv is something that will appeal to a lot of mobile users. It has a slider with a physical QWERTY keyboard setup in a world where most phones have switched to on-screen keys.

There may not be anything official on the pricing front, but the BlackBerry Priv was launched in the US for $699, which translates to around Rs 43,450. BlackBerry may add extra premium to the converted value before announcing the price in India, Gadgets360 reports.
