Season 8 of "The Big Bang Theory" has wrapped filming, and actress Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting revealed the news through an Instagram post on Wednesday.

The actress who plays Penny in the CBS comedy thanked her fans and friends for their support, writing: "That's a wrap on season 8 @bigbangtheory_cbs !!!! See you next year! Thank you to all the fans and to these special friends who joined and supported me in tonight's big finale :)"

The finale is going to be a special one for her character and her onscreen fiance Leonard, as speculations are rife that they will finally set a date for their much-awaited wedding.

Although Leonard and Penny have been engaged for a while, they have been procrastinating when it comes to setting a wedding date. Ever since their engagement, the focus has been on Penny's new job and how her financial independence has affected her relationship with Leonard.

Similarly, Amy and Sheldon too have been delaying when it comes to taking the next step in their relationship. It has been more than five years since the two went on their first date, and from the looks of it Amy wants more out of her romance with Sheldon.

But before he takes the next step, Sheldon will question Leonard and Penny about their hesitancy to move forward in their lives. "Sheldon has progress and relationships on his mind and wants to know just in fact why Leonard and Penny going so slow," executive producer Steve Molaro told TVGuide. "If they're an example of who's progressing, why don't they have a wedding date?"

By the end of the episode, all four will "make life-changing and series-changing decisions about their relationships," Molaro teased.

It remains to be seen if these life-changing decision will result in one couple calling it quits on their relationship.

The season finale of "The Big Bang Theory" airs on 7 May. The finale episode is titled "The Commitment Determination" and the official synopsis reads: "Sheldon pushes Leonard and Penny to choose a date for their wedding and deals with dramatic changes in his own relationship with Amy."
