An FIR has been filed against Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh and former Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Sriniwas Tiwari for alleged illegal appointment of 17 people in the Madhya Pradesh legislature secretariat a decade ago.

Based on retired Justice Sachindra Dwivedi Committee's recommendations, the FIR was filed against the 17 persons along with the two Congress leaders at Jahangirabad police station in Bhopal based on a complaint from Principal secretary of the Assembly Bhagwandev Israni.

The Committee also recommended dismissal of the 17 persons, including former Principal Secretary of Vidhan Sabha Dr AK Payasi, from their posts.

"The FIR was filed under sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code," PTI reported

The committee, which was set up in 2004 by the BJP government submitted its report in 2006 with findings that revealed that these 17 people were illegally appointed to the Assembly Secretariat between 1993 and 2003, at the time when Singh was the chief minister of the state.

The then state government had then directed Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the alleged scam, but the latter refused saying the state agencies is capable enough to investigate the matter.

The case has surfaced once again at a time when Singh has alleged Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife's involvement in the MPPEB examination scam. Also, the bad news for Singh has come on his birth anniversary.
