Many would remember Betty White as the bubbly and energetic grandmother in "The Proposal". The veteran actress became the victim of a hoax during the Labour Day weekend after a report, which appeared on satirical news website Empire News circulated on the Internet on 5 September.

The article titled, "Actress Betty White, 93, Dyes Peacefully in Her Los Angeles Home" was misinterpreted as a news report on her death.

The article contains an interview with the actress about her hair colour and what impelled her to dye it. However, fans of the star wrote panicked and angry comments regarding the article's headline.

A day after the hoax appeared online; Betty herself posted a picture on her Instagram account, dispelling rumours of her death.

The photo, taken on the set of comedy series, "Bones" was captioned: "Great first day on the set of #Bones."

According to reports, the actress will play the role of Dr. Beth Maye, an intern on "Bones" season 11. She will be asked to assist in a fantasy football murder case, and her part is crucial to the show's plot line, as she is one of the "world's most experienced forensic anthropologist," according to TV Line.

This is not the first time the 93-year-old actresss has found herself to be the subject of a death hoax. Last year, the same article shocked many of the "Golden Girls" star's fans.
