Whilst other presidential candidates such as Donald Trump have frequently had their campaign rallies disrupted by protesters, Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders instead found his speech in Oregon interrupted by the arrival of a bird of peace.

The 74-year-old Vermont senator was speaking at the Moda Center in Portland when a bird, breed unknown, flew onto the stage and then onto his podium. The crowd erupted in cheers as Sanders smiled.

When the bird flew away, Sanders told the crowd, I think there may be some symbolism here. I know it doesnt look like it, but that bird is really a dove asking us for world peace. No more wars.

Sanders currently trails behind Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton in a bid to represent the party at the US presidential election in November, with 949 total delegates to Clintons 1,691 so far. A candidate needs 2,383 delegates to win the nomination.

The next state caucuses are in Alaska, Hawaii and Washington on 26 March.
