The Bengaluru police have arrested the office assistant who killed a 17-year-old girl in the hostel of a residential school.

"Man who allegedly shot Bengaluru school girl last night has been arrested: Police," NDTV tweeted.

According to earlier reports, the office assistant identified as Mahesh allegedly shot at the teenager Gauthami and her roommate Shirisha, resulting in the death of the former. Shirisha, however, sustained injuries and is said to be stable now.

The accused Mahesh fled from the scene after allegedly shooting at the two and was absconding ever since. According to reports, Mahesh took the step after Gauthami rejected his advances, The Hindu reported.

The incident took place at 10 pm on Tuesday within the campus of Pragathi  The School and PU College located in Kadugodi, at the outskirts of the IT-capital.

Gauthami, a class 12 student, was from Tumkuru district of Karnataka and the suspect too is believed to belong to the same place, according to news reports.

More details awaited.
