A gang of four people stabbed a rape accused to death on a busy street within the limits of HAL police station in Bengaluru on Sunday morning.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Syed Abdul, was arrested in 2013 in connection with a sexual assault case and was released on bail a few days ago. He was living in Hosur with his parents, who shifted there following his arrest, but had come to the city for a court hearing.

Abdul was waiting for a bus near HAL market on Vibhutipura main road, when the four men stabbed him multiple times and fled from the scene. Abdul collapsed and died on the spot.

As the incident took place on a busy market street, the shopkeepers informed the police, who arrived at the site immediately and sent his body for post-mortem.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that around four persons stabbed Abdullah repeatedly and fled. We questioned the shopkeepers, but none knows who the attackers are. After Abdullah was sent to jail, his parents shifted to Hosur fearing that the rape victim's family members would attack them," Deccan Herald quoted a senior police officer as saying.

"On Friday, he had come to the City to attend a court hearing. After attending the court, he went to his brother's house in Islampura and stayed there for a couple of days," the officer added.

The HAL police have registered a case and are investigating for leads to identify the attackers.
