The collection of Ravi Teja's "Bengal Tiger" has been badly hit by this week's new releases like "Loafer", "Dilwale", "Bajirao Mastani" and "Thanga Magan" at the US box office in its second weekend.
"Bengal Tiger" was released in over 100 cinema halls across North America on 10 December. The movie debuted with decent response and showed decent growth in its business on the following days. It collected $277,663 at the US box office in its opening week. It was expected to continue its rocking run and beat the records of Ravi Teja's previous movies.
But new releases "Loafer", "Dilwale", "Bajirao Mastani" and "Thanga Magan" forced the Sampath Nandi-directed masala entertainer out of many centres. Besides losing 75% of its screens, "Bengal Tiger" was out of the choice list of many film-goers in its second weekend.
"Bengal Tiger" has collected $8,150 from 20 screens at the US box office in the second weekend. Its 11-day US total collection stands at $285,813 (Rs 1.89 crore). The film has failed to beat the records of Ravi Teja's "Power" and "Kick 2", which collected $334,861 and $340,364, respectively, at the US box office.
Director Puri Jagannath and Varun Tej's "Loafer" was released in over 100 theatres amidst huge hype and promotion on 17 December. But the film opened to poor response at the ticket counters across the country and failed to show expected amount of growth on the following days.
The makers have not revealed its figures. But if we are to go by early estimates, "Loafer" has collected $36,286 (Rs 24.06 lakh) at the US box office in its opening weekend. The film has landed in fourth place in the US business chart for Indian films, pushing "Bengal Tiger" down to fifth place.
Here is the US business chart for Indian films based on numbers mention in the Bollywood Hungama report.
