Election was not held in the Hongasandra ward (number 189) as a BJP candidate was on 13 August declared elected unanimously, after the poll panel rejected the nomination of Congress candidate K Maheshwari for submitting a false caste certificate, IANS reported.

In the previous five-year term (2010-2015), the BJP had for the first time taken over the rule in BBMP by winning in 116 wards, while Congress won only in 62 wards, JD-S in 14 and and eight were won by independents. It will be decided today whether the graph would remain the same for the next five years or BJP would take away more wards.

After the results are announced, the process of taking charge will be completed within a month, during which the mayor, deputy mayor and chairpersons of 12 standing committees will be elected in the first meeting. The party that will win in more than 100 wards will elect their candidates as the mayor and deputy mayor, Deccan Herald reports.
