Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo saved their respective teams from defeat much to the expectations of their fans. The Barcelona and Real Madrid match ended in an enthralling 2-2 draw at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are now top scorers of the La Liga 2012-13 with eight goals each following their double strikes on Sunday. Radamel Falcao was the top scorer with seven goals before the duo scored double.

Ronaldo put Real Madrid ahead in the 21stminute by sending Benzema's pass into Victor Valdes's net but Messi scored an equalizer ten minutes later from Pedro's cross.

Messi then put Barcelona 2-1 in the 61stminute with a curling 30-yard free kick. The ball hit the left corner of Iker Casillas' net. Ronaldo managed to strike his second goal of the match five minutes later from Ozil's pass, ensuring a draw for his team. He played till the final whistle though he was visibly in pain after he landed on his shoulder from a failed by-cycle kick attempt.

Barcelona enjoyed more ball possession but Real Madrid kept threatening to break through the home team's defense. The absence of Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol was felt as Jose Mourinho's men broke Barcelona's defense at regular intervals. They pushed hard towards the end of the game but Martin Montoya's kick hit the crossbar and Pedro sent the ball wide in just in time.

Barcelona is on top of the table with 19 points in spite of the draw on Sunday following wins in the last six games played, while Real Madrid is in the fifth position with 11 points from three wins, two draws and two loses.
