On Saturday, "BA Pass" actress Shikha Joshi was found dead in her Versova, Mumbai apartment.
Apparently, Shikha's roommate Madhu Bharti repeatedly rang the door bell, after which she opened it using her key only to find the actress lying in a pool of blood with a knife stabbed in her throat. The deceased was rushed to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she was declared 'brought dead'.
Describing the incident to The Times of India, DCP Satya Narayan Chaudhry said at around 6pm Shikha walked into the bathroom slitting her throat with a sharp knife, after which she collapsed due to excessive bleeding.
Although no suicide note has been retrieved from the scene, police officials suspect it might be one. After investigation, it was learnt that she had been battling depression for some time. Her brother has claimed the body, and Delhi-based 19-year-old daughter has been informed.
"We have not found any suicide note. The kitchen knife used in the crime has been seized. She was staying with her friend, Madhu Bharti, whose statement is being recorded. Bharti was staying with Joshi for the last two months. Prima facie, it seems that Joshi took the extreme step due to frustration," senior police inspector Ravindranath Pawar told TOI.
"Police team was alerted by neighbours in night after which we took the body and sent it for post-mortem. From preliminary investigation, we have learnt that she was under depression," PTI quoted another cop as saying.
In 2011, she fired up a massive controversy by accusing her cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Vijay Sharma, of molesting her. Five years after undergoing a breast implant surgery, she found a lump. This prompted her to make another appointment.
"She had accused the doctor of molesting her by touching her inappropriately," added a police official.
However, she apparently didn't stop at that. Roughly two years ago, Shikha and her brother were arrested for pelting stones at the doctor's house.
