After unveiling Ameo, a made-in-India compact sedan, on the opening day of the ongoing Auto Expo 2016, Volkswagen showcased its performance hatch Polo GTI on Wednesday, 4 February at the auto show.

Volkswagen Polo GTI will hit Indian roads later this year. At the heart, Polo GTI, the powerful performance hatchback gets 1.8-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine that can churn out 189bhp of power and 320Nm of peak torque. The transmission in the hatchback is handled by seven-speed DSG transmission.

The Polo GTI will be launched in three-door version initially and it is said that the company will also consider 5-door version for the Indian market after gauging the response of the customers.

On the design front, the Polo GTI flaunts new front and rear bumpers with GTI badge and LED DRLs. There is also a honeycomb-styled radiator grille rear spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, black grained diffuser and the chrome dual exhaust tailpipes.

It runs on 17-inch alloy wheels and inside the cabin, the hot hatch gets new steering wheel, instrument cluster and sports seats. As far as safety features are concerned, Polo GTI packs ABS, ESP and Hill-hold functions and airbags as standard.

The Polo GTI, which will be brought to India as CBU (completely built units), is expected to be priced at over Rs 20 lakh.
