After four long years of probing into the 2008 Ahmedabad bombing, Maharashtra ATS team Monday claimed to have gunned down one terror suspect in connection with the terror strike and arrested two. A constable was also injured during the shootout.

Reportedly, it was the suspects who first opened fire at the police team, which arrived near Uddhav Rao Patil Chowk in Himayat Bagh area of the town, acting on a reliable tip-off around 12.30 pm. The anti-terror squad was pressed to retaliate after taking fire from the suspects.

In this ATS encounter, the accused identified as Khaleel, a resident of Gulmohar Colony in Ahmedabad, was killed in the shootout. Meanwhile other two suspects were taken into the police custody in injured condition.

Sources said one of accused was also involved in the murder of a BJP activist.

Within a span of 70 minutes, a series of 21 bomb blasts rocked Ahmedabad in July 2008 that killed about 56 and injured over 200 people.
