"Now a gene is going to point out cancer," said a researcher from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and France's National institute of Health and Medical Research.

The researcher found follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) receptor in more than 1,200 cancer patients. This receptor is a protein that attaches itself to FSH protein that plays different roles in the reproductive system. This attachment between the FSH receptor and FSH protein might help in the formation of new blood vessels, thereby nourishing the tumor.

This receptor was monitored in 11 types of cancerous tumors and can be present anywhere between the early stages to late stage. This receptor is not found in other normal tissues of the organism, including the normal tissue of the organ that was carrying the tumor, according to the study.

The receptor in the tumor carries a great value for the researcher to trace the cancer cells and will be helpful for physicians for early detection of the cancerous tumor and ultimately treating the tumor.
