Gionee Elife S5.5 World’s Slimmest Smartphone Launched in India; Price, Specification Details

Chinese smartphone maker, Gionee officially launched the company's new flagship smartphone Elife S5.5 in Goa, India on Monday (31 March).

Pegged to be the world's slimmest smartphone, Elife S5.5 measures just 5.5 mm thickness and despite boasting metallic chassis, it weighs a meager 130 g. It flaunts a 5.0-inch energy efficient super AMOLED display having full HD 1920x1080p resolution.

Under the hood, it ships with Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS with custom UI Amigo v2.0, 1.7GHz MediaTek processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt memory and a Li-Ion based 2300 mAh battery (non-removable).

The new Gionee also houses a standard 13.0-megapixel camera (with auto-focus, LED flash) and 5.0-megapixel wide-angle (95-degree) camera on the front, giving enough room to snap a decent group selfie (or individual) as well as have a good quality video chat.

Gionee Elife S5.5 is launching in over 40 countries with India being the first, after China, said the company. The smartphone will hit stores across India next month (specific time line will be announced locally) and has been competitively priced just under ₹23,000 to challenge the local players, Micromax (Canvas Knight A350), Karbonn Mobiles (Octane & Octane Plus), Intex (Aqua Octa) who also launched Octa-core based handsets in to Indian market early this year.
