Sunny Leone's horror thriller "Ragini MMS 2" kicked off at the box office on a strong note. The film had the third-highest opening day earnings in 2014, after "Jai Ho" and "Gunday".

"Ragini MMS 2", a sequel to the 2011 film of the same name, accumulated ₹8.43 crore on the first day of its release from theaters across India, trade analyst Taran Adarsh Tweeted.

The film was released along with three other films, "Gang of Ghosts", "Lakshmi" and "Ankho Dekhi", but it remained unaffected at the box office. Also, the India-Pakistan match didn't affect the first day collection of "Ragini MMS 2".

The morning shows at most of the circuits were housefull; even during the evening the film registered good occupancy at collection centers.

"#RaginiMMS2 has a solid start at the ticket window. Despite India vs Pakistan cricket match making a dent in biz," Adarsh said.

As per early estimates, the film has the third-widest release of this year, after Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" and Ranveer Singh-Arjun Kapoor's "Gunday".

The business of the film is expected to escalate on the second day, as most of the multiplexes and single screens in India have registered good occupancy. At some circuits, especially North India, people are queuing up outside theaters to watch the former adult star's horror film.
