The year 2013 witnessed the release of some of the biggest blockbuster Bollywood films, which has re-written the box office rules. The upcoming year is also expected to be as rocking as 2013 as some major films featuring big star casts is set to hit the silver screens.

Few films like "Jai Ho", "Dedh Ishqiya", "P.K", and "Happy New Year" among other have already grabbed public attention.

Here is a look at the biggest films that are likely to set the cash registers ringing at the box office in the upcoming year:

1.      Dedh Ishqiya: The film is a sequel to "Ishqiya" directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The film is a comedy thriller and is slated to release on 10 January. The main actors of the film are Madhuri Dixit Nene, Huma Qureshi, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Vijay Raaz.   

2.      Jai Ho: The action thriller is Salman Khan's much-awaited flick as this is his first film after one-and-a-half year. "Jai Ho" is a remake of south film "Stalin", which is inspired from Hollywood flick "Pay It Forward". The film which will hit screens on 24 January also features Tabu, Danny Denzongpa and Daisy Shah in important roles.

3.      Hasee Toh Phasee: Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles, "Hasee Toh Phasee" is a romantic comedy film slated to release on 7 February. The film is co-produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Anurag Kashyap's Phantom Films.

4.      Gunday: Written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar "Gunday" is a action thriller film. Produced under Yash Raj banner, the film features Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Irrfan Khan in lead roles. The film will release on 14 February.

5.      Highway: Directed by Imtiaz Ali the film has already created wave with its trailer. It features Alia Bhat and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles. Releasing on 21 February, the film showcases the scenic beauty of six different states.

6.      Shaadi Ke Side Effects: The film, which features Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar in lead roles, is a sequel to "Pyaar Ke Side Effects" and will hit screens on 28 February. The story if the film revolves around a married couple and how they deal with the complexities that comes with marriage.

7.      Happy Ending: It is a rom-com directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. The film ensemble cast including Govinda, Saif Ali Khan, Ranvir Shorey, Ileana D'Cruz, Kalki Koechlin, Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor Khan. It will hit screens worldwide in March.

8.      Bhootnath Returns: The film is horror comedy drama film and features Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. Sr. Bachchan plays the role of a ghost in the film, which also features Boman Irani in an important role. The horror comedy film has been in news since the shooting of the film began. "Bhootnath Returns" will release on 11 April.

9.      2 States: The film is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name. The film features Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhat in the lead roles and is scheduled to release on 18 April. "2 States" team has already finished shooting the film.

10.  P.K.: Also called as "Peekay" is a political satire film directed by Raj Kumar Hirani. The film features Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Boman Irani in important roles. The film was initially set to release in December, but the delay in shooting has postponed the release date to 6 June.

11.  Mardaani: The film features Rani Mukherji in the lead role. She is playing the role of a crime branch officer in the upcoming film. Produced under Yash Raj banner "Mardaani" is directed by Pradeep Sarkar.  

12.  Kick: Salman Khan starrer "Kick" is a remake of 2009 Telugu hit film with the same name. Producer Sajid Nadiawala will make his debut as director with the film. The film is skated for Eid release i.e. 27 July. Apart from Salman, the film also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mithun Chakraborty and Archana Puran Singh in main roles.

13.  Mary Kom: The film is a biopic of a lady boxer Mary Kom. Priyanka Chopra is playing the role of the lady boxer, while R Madhavan will be her coach in the film. Directed by Omung Kumar the biopic will release in July.

14.  Singham 2: Rohit Shetty directorial film is a sequel to 2011 film "Singham". Ajay Devgn is reprising his role from the prequel. The leading lady of the film is not yet decided. The shooting of the film was suppose to start in February next year, but due to "Fear Factor" Shetty has postponed the shooting of the film. As per reports, the film will release on Independence Day i.e. 15 August.   

15.  Kill Dil: It is a romantic action film featuring Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra, Ali Zafar and Govinda. Directed by Shaad Ali, the film will release on 5 September.

16.  Bang Bang: Starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles "Bang Bang" is an action thriller. The film is an official remake of Hollywood flick "Knight and Day". Directed by Siddharth Anand "Bang Bang" will release on 2 October.

17.  Jagga Jasoos: Ranbir Kapoor's detective flick "Jagga Jasoos" has been in news for several reasons. The detective flick was earlier scheduled to release with SRK's "Happy New Year" (HNY), but as per reports, the makers have decided to release the film in October to avoid the clash. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film also features Katrina Kaif in lead role.

18.  Happy New Year: It is produced and directed by Farah Khan. The choreographer-turned-director announced plans to make the film in 2005 but its production was delayed due to several reasons. The shooting of the film started this year and will release next year in November. The film features Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood and Boman Irani. 

19.  Bombay Velvet: Directed by Anurag Kashyap "Bombay Velvet" is a drama film. It features Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in lead role. Set against the backdrop of the 60s, Ranbir will play the role of a street fighter. The film will release on 25 December.
