Arsenal have reportedly made it known to the representatives of Edinson Cavani that they are interested in bringing the prolific striker to the English Premier League.

Cavani is reportedly looking for a way out of Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France, with the Uruguayan a little unhappy at playing second fiddle to the peerless Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 26-year-old has reportedly asked his representatives to check for interest from other European clubs in a bid to manufacture a move in the January transfer window, or as is more likely, next summer.

Arsenal were the first club to respond to Cavani's interest in a move away and have reportedly made it clear they are ready to hold talks if the want for a move should intensify, according to French publication Le10 Sport.

The Gunners are in serious need of a striker, with Olivier Giroud carrying a rather heavy burden on his own at the moment, albeit admirably. The likes of Luis Suarez, Alexandre Pato, Konstantinos Mitroglou, Jackson Martinez and Karim Benzema are just some of the names linked with a switch to the Emirates in the January window, and Cavani arguably trumps them all with his goalscoring prowess.

While Suarez is Arsene Wenger's ultimate choice, the manager will have no qualms in turning his attentions to the Liverpool striker's compatriot, with the Reds refusing to sell their main man to a rival Premier League club.

However, a move for Cavani looks equally unlikely. While reports of Cavani's unrest have been doing the rounds for a while now, there has been no actual suggestion that the former Napoli man is indeed unhappy in Paris, with his goals and form not exactly tailing off, despite having Ibrahimovic for competition.

PSG are not likely to let their player leave in the January window either, even if those reports turn out to be true, and Cavani will also cost any interested club quite a bit of money - much more than the £42.5 million that Arsenal paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil.

However, as Wenger showed on transfer deadline day last summer, if the right player becomes available, he is not shy on taking out that rather heavy purse, opening it up and distributing it to the concerned party with a smile.

Cavani is certainly the kind of player that Arsenal need, even if he is a bit similar to Giroud, and while a move looks extremely unlikely, Gooners out there will not be averse to dreaming a bit here and there of the Uruguayan possibly wearing Arsenal colours in the near future.
