The longest running scripted show on television's history, "The Simpsons" will be running through 2015 as Fox announced that it has renewed the animated comedy TV show.
It was earlier uncertain if the show might go on till Season 25 but now all these doubts have been laid to rest. "The Simpsons" was instrumental in hoisting Fox Network's young viewer profile when the show first aired in 1989. The show is a highly rated money-generator for the network and the production studio.
"For more than a quarter of a century, THE SIMPSONS has captured the hearts and minds of fans in a way that transcends ages, languages and cultures," Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company said in a statement on Facebook. "This groundbreaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it's one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I'm looking forward to yet another landmark season."
The producers of the show have to continually bring in new content to the show and it was announced by Al Jean, show's executive producer that a character will be killed off in the next season.
"We're actually working on a script where a character will pass away," Jean said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I'll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is."
This hint does not help since the voice-overs for show's characters like Homer, Barney, Krusty, Marge, Patty, Apu, Bart and Lisa have all won an Emmy.
Jean also revealed that there will be a "Futurama" crossover episode in the future.
Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro, director of "Pan's Labyrinth" was given the honor of directing the opening for The Simpson' "Treehouse of Horror: XXIV." He "crafted parody of the classic Simpsons title montage," reported New York Daily News.
"It's almost surreal in a way, because I adore the Simpsons with a passion. This is the very top of career achievements for me," del Toro told the Daily News.
