In yet another embarrassment for the Congress government in Rajasthan ahead of the assembly elections later this year, another MLA has been accused of sexually assasulting a woman.

Udai Lal Anjana, a Congress MLA from Nimahera in Chittor, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 45-year-old woman after promising to marry her. The victim said that the Congress leader had even forced her to undergo abortion 

The incident came to light just two days after former Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Babulal Nagar was forced to resign over rape allegations. 

An Ajmer district court has asked the Mundwa police to register a case of sexual assault against Udai Lal Anjana following complaint by the woman.

The victim alleged that she met Anjana in 1984 in Chittoor and has been having an intimate relationship with him since 1988. As per reports, Anjana married the woman in a temple but he never accepted it in public.

During the period he was in touch with her, Anjana reportedly wrote about 1,000 letters to her, which she produced in the court as evidence.

The judge has directed to register a case under section 376 (rape), 313 (to force abortion against the will of woman), 315 (to kill a newborn), 370 (illegal confinement), 384 (threatening life) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Ashok Gehlot-led government has been hit by controversies ahead of the assembly elections with the opposition party attacking the government after Babulal Nagar was accused of raping a 35-year-old woman on the pretext of providing her a job. Nagar stepped down from the cabinet the police booked him under Sections 376 (rape) and 323 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
