World smartphone leader, Samsung on Monday announced that it would host a big company event in Berlin on 4 September which many believe it to be the launch pad for the most anticipated Galaxy Note 3 phablet.Samsung Mobile/Twitter

The 'Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode 2' event in Berlin finally witnessed the launch of the much-awaited Galaxy Note 3 phablet and Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

"Samsung GALAXY Gear frees users from the need to constantly check their smart devices while maintaining connections. It provides what we call 'smart freedom,' by allowing users to choose how, why, when and where they are connected," he further commented on the new wearable device.

As expected, Galaxy Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED full HD display and runs on the latest Android v4.3 Jelly Bean OS with 3GB RAM. It houses a 13.0-megapixel camera on the rear side with Smart Stabilizations and CRI LED flash and also have the capability to record Ultra HD video (4K resolution-3840x2160p) recording at 30 fps and a 2.0-megapixel camera on the front with full HD video recording ability.

Samsung will sell Galaxy Note 3 in two variants - a 4G-LTE model which will be powered by 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor with Adreno 330 GPU, and a 3G compatible model with Samsung's very own Exynos 5420 Octa-core processor (with quad-core processors-A15 1.9 GHz + A7 1.3 GHz) in different markets.  

Like its predecessors, the new phablet will come with S Pen functionality. It features Air Command, Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write, S Finder, Pen Window S Note, Multi Window, new Easy Clip and Direct Pen Input.

Samsung Galaxy Gear:

The second attraction at the Samsung event was the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, the first ever wearable device to roll out from the South Korean company. It sports a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED touch screen with 320x320p resolution and houses 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt memory and a 1.9-megapixel camera with BSI sensor and auto-focus to record HD 720p video.

The smartwatch is powered by an 800 mAh processor backed by a Li-Ion battery with 315 mAh.

Other key features include safety assistance, wherein a user when faced with an emergency situaion just has to press the power button three times. The smartwatch will automatically send the user's location data to a pre-designated set of people through SMS. Other features include the Evernote watch app which captures an image and set it as remainder, the e-Bay app which complete all transactions in real time and the MyFitness Pal which tracks the user's nutrition and exercise routines.

One striking feature is that the user can take calls on the Galaxy Gear without having to hold the smartphone through S voice functionality.

Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear will be launched in more than 140 countries, simultaneously, on 25 September. However the price of the devices are still under wraps.

Along with Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet device.
