Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" has finally smashed Aamir's "3 Idiots" record, by grossing over ₹206 crore in 17 days at the domestic box office.

"Chennai Express", which released across 3,500 plus screens on 9 August, has broken several records of other films. For instance, the SRK starrer has smashed "EK Tha Tiger" record of scoring the fastest century (₹100 crore at the domestic box office). The action-comedy entertainer has also scored big in overseas markets. "Chennai Express" has grossed more than ₹313 crore at the worldwide box office, surpassing "Ek Tha Tiger" lifetime collections of ₹310 crore in just ten days.

Aamir's "3 Idiots" set the record of becoming the biggest grosser of Hindi cinema (₹202.47 crore-domestic figure) in 2009. It has taken four years for a Hindi film - "Chennai Express" - to break the record and top the list of biggest grossers.

Now, the question arises as to who would be next to shatter Shah Rukh's record. There are some big films slated to get released in last quarter of the year.

"Besharam"

Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam" will be the first film in the big league to get released. Following the success of "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (₹188 crore lifetime figures), Ranbir's "Besharam" is one of the most-awaited films of 2013.

Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, "Besharam" is reportedly made on a budget of over ₹50 crore. The film is expected to get released in October.

"Krrish 3"

"Krrish 3", a superhero, science-fiction film starring Hrithik Roshan, Vivek Oberoi, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut is next in line. The promo of "Krrish 3" have already been viewed more than one crore times, which is the highest ever for a Bollywood flick.  Considering the fact that the first two films in the franchise including "Koi Mil Gaya" and "Krrish" have done extraordinary business, the expectations for "Krrish 3" have sky-rocketed.

Directed by Rakesh Roshan, "Krrish 3" is said to have been made on a budget of around ₹90 crore owing to special effects used in the film. "Krrish 3" will release during Diwali festival season in the first week of November.

"Dhoom 3"

Finally, Aamir's most-anticipated "Dhoom 3" will hit the theatres during Christmas in December. The Chirstmas period has always proved lucky for Aamir. The first look poster of the film, which was unveiled recently, has already caused a stir in the cyber world. There are some reports suggesting that television channels are offering ₹75 crore to obtain the satellite rights of the film. However, there is no official confirmation on the same.

The "Dhoom" franchise started in 2004 with John Abraham playing the antagonist in the first part. In "Dhoom 2" Hrithik donned the role, while Aamir will appear as the antagonist with Katrina Kaif in "Dhoom 3".

Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reprise their roles in the third part of the franchise.

More Films

Besides the afore-mentioned films, there are other significant projects releasing this year including "Boss", "Satyagraha", "Ram Leela", "Bullett Raja", "Rambo Rajkumar" and "Gori Tere Pyar Mein".

One needs to wait to find out if any of these films will be able to break "Chennai Express" record and become the biggest grosser of Hindi cinema.
