Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will make a special appearance in Shahid Kapoor starrer "Phata Poster Nikla Hero".

The "Dabangg" star will play a cameo in the upcoming film which has Shahid playing the role of a cop. "Barfi" fame Ileana D'Cruz has been cast for the female lead.

"They shot for the scene together over the last weekend at a suburban studio. The shoot lasted for six hours or so," a source close to the production team told Hindustan Times (HT).

Shahid's spokesperson confirmed that the two actors will share screen space in the film.

"Phata Poster Nikla Hero", a romantic comedy, is written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film is co-produced by Ramesh Taurani, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur.

It was reported that after Salam completed his portion of the shoot, the actor stayed back on the sets till the day's schedule was wrapped up. "He and Rajkumar are really close friends, so he was catching up with him. In fact, he even spent a few hours bonding with Shahid. They were seen chit-chatting for quite some time after the shoot," said the source said.

Director Rajkumar Santoshi has not revealed any details of Salman's role as he wants it to be a surprise once the film is released.

"Rajkumar wants it to be a surprise for the audience. So, no one, apart from the actors involved in the scene, is aware of what his role is," the source said.

Though no information on Salman's role was revealed, buzz is that with Shahid playing a cop, Salman will be seen in his popular "Chulbul Pandey" avatar - the corrupt yet heroic Inspector police officer in the "Dabangg" series.

"Phata Poster Nikla Hero" is slated to release on 23 August.
