A medical student was allegedly gangraped and thrown off from a private bus in south Delhi on Sunday night.

According to reports, the 23-year-old victime was molested in the moving bus by five men. She was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for her injuries and her condition is reported to be critical.

Prior to the incident, the girl was accompanied by a male friend who was escorting her home. He was beaten down and later thrown off the bus along with the girl.

Reports say that the duo boarded the bus to Dwarka around 11 pm from Munirka in south Delhi. Initially, the offenders beat the man with rods and allegedly raped the girl after which they threw both of them off the bus near Mahipalpur flyover. They were found in a semi naked condition.

It was said that the molesters have not been identified and it was unclear if they were bus employees or passengers.

The friend, an employee with a software company, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Vasant Vihar police station at around 1.15 am. The police have registered a case under section 376 and two buses had been seized in connection with the matter.

Later, the friend's uncle said, "They boarded the bus at the Munirka bus station... Bus staff was present. Within 10 minutes a few people started harassing the woman... When the boy revolted he was hit badly. The woman was gangraped in the bus cabin," Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.
