Kenny Dalglish Sacked by Liverpool

International Business Times UK

After spending £110 million on seven players before leading Liverpool to their worst finish in the last 50 years, Red Devils manager Kenny Dalglish was let go today according to reports from multiple media outlets.

Dalglish's position has been under threat since director of football Damien Comolli was sent packing for wasting transfer funds. Dalglish had accepted responsibility for selecting many of the players that the funds were "wasted" on.

The Scottish manager flew to Boston, MA on Monday to meet with Liverpool John Henry and Chairman Tom Warner in an attempt to secure his future with the club but it seems as though that meeting was not productive.

Dalglish was dismissed despite the fact that he still has the backing of many of the club's supporters. He is still adored at Anfield for his first stint there as a player and then manager that ended in 1991. But it seems that the backing of the fans mattered little to owners in the Fenway Sports Group.

Despite strong words of support for Dalglish early in the year, the FSG have spoken less and less in support of their manager as the season went on. They have been entirely silent since Liverpool lost the FA Cup Final 2-1 to Chelsea on May 5.

The search for a new manager to lead Liverpool back to the Champions League begins in earnest now especially with so many unemployed managers just after the end of the season.
