ARSENAL TRANSFER RUMOURS: Vertonghen, Del Piero, Van Persie, Belhanda, Eriksen, Rodrigo Moreno Involved In Latest Speculation

International Business Times UK

There is little doubt that the coming months represent a pivotal summer for Arsenal. Having secured Champions League qualification for next season, the club must now push on and make signings that demonstrate a determination to return to competing with the best in England and in Europe.

The ambition that the Gunners are willing to demonstrate will also likely be crucial in determining the fate of Robin van Persie.

The Premier League's Golden Boot winner is due to meet with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis to discuss his future at the home of the Arsenal boss on Wednesday.

While much attention has focused on the financial package Van Persie might be offered, and more to the point what he can get elsewhere, it is Arsenal's proposed activity in the transfer market this summer that will likely be just as important in the 28-year-old's decision.

The club already looks to have missed out on one of their targets, though, with the news that Jan Vertonghen is set to sign for North-London rivals Tottenham.

The Sun reports that the Ajax center-back was in attendance at White Hart Lane for Spurs' final game of the season and was later shown around their new training ground. The 25-year-old was long linked with a move to the Emirates but now appears close to sealing a £13 million move to join Harry Redknapp's squad.

There is similarly pessimistic news on Tuesday regarding another player admired at the Emirates. Wenger has spoken highly of Montpellier's Younes Belhanda, and it was thought that the attacking midfielder could have been an ideal replacement for the skills lost with Samir Nasri's departure last summer.

But the Independent reports that Belhanda is a serious target for Manchester City. And, with Inter also said to be making a serious bid for his signature, according to Tribal Football, Arsenal may have their work cut out to attract the 22-year-old.

An alternative to Belhanda could be Ajax's talented midfielder Christian Eriksen. Caught Offside reports that they could act on their long-held interest in the Danish international this summer.

Another youngster on Arsenal's radar is Benfica's Rodrigo Moreno. The 21-year-old has been something of a revelation this season, scoring nine goals in 20 appearances-just nine of them starts-for the Lisbon giants.

And O Jogo reports that Arsenal, along with Manchester United and Real Madrid, are chasing the Spaniard.

Arsenal could also be shopping at the other end of the age scale this summer. Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero bid farewell to the Juventus fans after 19 celebrated years in the club's final home game of the season on Sunday.

With his contract due to expire, much speculation has surrounded the 37-year-old's next destination. And Del Piero has now given a strong indication that he will be plying his trade in the Premier League next season.

"England is a place where the football is so good, but I have still not agreed anything with a club," he said, according to Sky Sports.

Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers are also said to be keen on the man who has scored 27 goals in 91 appearances for Italy.
