Ann Romney Makes Fashion Statement In $1K 'Reed Audubon Silk Shirt'
The fashion show that is the run for the 2012 White House bustled into full swing on Wednesday as media outlets and bloggers alike quickly took note of a rather pricey fashion choice Mrs. Ann Romney made for an interview with CBS.
Ann Romney opted for a $1,000 blouse made by designer Reed Krakoff, titled "The Reed Audubon Silk Shirt." The top features a screen-printed bodice of a red, orange and yellow bird with brown sleeves. The shirt is from the line's Spring 2012 collection and retails for $990, as first reported by the style blog Styleite.com.
ABC News spoke with the fashion house about Romney wearing "The Reed Audubon Silk Shirt," but the representative for the designer said that they wish to stay out of politics.
"We had nothing to do with it," a rep for designer Reed Krakoff told ABC News. "She must have bought it from Saks or Bergdorf's, we definitely didn't send it to her."
"It's 100 percent a Reed Krakoff shirt, but we 100 percent didn't send it to her. We don't get involved politically," the rep added.

Ann Romney does not have a stylist for the 2012 campaign and a spokesperson for the Romney camp declined to comment to ABC News about her fashion choices.
Romney versus Obama is not only about the White House in 2012, but it is also about the wardrobe.
"As a candidate for First Lady Of The United States, Ann Romney has it tough. The current FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, has sky-high approval ratings and a signature style -- prints, flats, brooches -- beloved by the fashion world. Ann, we've argued, needs to up the glamour quotient and give us fashion fans a sense of her personal style. And today, she did just that. So what does Ann Romney Style look like? What can we expect from this potential FLOTUS? Flashy bird shirts, apparently," wrote the Huffington Post.
Some conservative bloggers took note of just how quickly the media moved to reveal the price tag of Mrs. Romney's attire.
"Let's get real here. If Ann Romney is representing the segment of the American population [in her $1000 shirt] that spends its days taking tea at the Waldorf with the wives of bank executives and the mistresses of their lobbyists, then Michelle Obama, whose fashion choices usually bottom out at around a grand is representing that segment of the population that we will all one day give our organs to serve. Aside from the $4K vacation wardrobe, in the last week, Michelle has sported a dress from the Preen Spring collection that will set you back around a cool $1500 and a L'Wren Scott embroidered cardigan that retails for around $2500," wrote blogger Emily Zanotti.
Such is the campaign trail -- the most unlikely of fashion crusades.
*If you are swooning over Reed Krakoff's "The Reed Audubon Silk Shirt" worn by Ann Romney, it will take some searching. The shirt is currently unavailable on the designer's official website. Similar tops are available from Net-a-porter and Saks Fifth Avenue.
