Apparently 10 percent of British children are unable to locate the UK on a map, according to a recent survey. This is in spite of the fact that 78 percent of children have travelled abroad at least once.

Worse still, approximately 40 percent of the children surveyed did not know the UK was in Europe.
The survey was part of a Heathrow study, conducted among 1,000 children aged between six and 10.
The survey also suggested Spain and France as the children's favourite destination; close to half the population has travelled there.
Moreover, a quarter of those surveyed did not know an atlas. However, they seemed to perform better when it came to identifying countries outside their continent. For example, a majority of them identified places like Australia and Russia on the map.
Heathrow has now installed giant globes at its terminals, for the Easter holidays, in an attempt to help children learn some geography on the fly!
