Jennie Garth, Peter Facinelli to Divorce: 5 Other Ill-Fated Celebrity Marriages [PHOTOS]
Actress Jennie Garth of "90210 fame" and actor Peter Facinelli from the "Twilight" saga and TV's "Nurse Jackie" will divorce after 11 years of marriage. The reason behind the divorce is not yet known, although one source believes that Facinelli had cheated on Garth on the set of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" in Vancouver.
"While we have decided to end our marriage, we both share the same deep love and devotion to our children," the couple said in a statement released to People. "We remain dedicated to raising our beautiful daughters together. We ask for privacy and respect during this time."
The divorce announcement comes one day after Facinelli walked the red carpet for the highly-anticipated movie "The Hunger Games" with his 14-year-old daughter Luca.
Garth, 39, and Facinelli, 38, originally met on the set of a made-for-TV movie, called (somewhat ironically), "An Unfinished Affair." The couple married in 2001, and now have three children together, including Luca, Lola (9) and Fiona (5).
As noted by Perez Hilton, many speculate that Garth and Facinelli were experiencing marital problems over a year ago, hitting a "fever pitch" around last July. Hilton reported that the couple was living separately, but Garth and Facinelli dodged the reports by publishing photos of a family vacation over Twitter.
Speaking of Twitter, Garth is no longer following Facinelli on the microblogging social network. As we learn more details about the divorce, we'll give them to you.
While it's unfortunate that Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli weren't meant to be, the choice to split reminds us of some other ill-fated celebrity marriages. Here are five more reasons why Hollywood and marriage don't mix.
Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli
Actors Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli called it quits after 11 years, possibly upon suspicion of infidelity. While it's sad that this couple will divorce, especially considering their three young children together, there are plenty of Hollywood couples that didn't even enjoy a year of marriage before they divorced.
Here are five celebrity splits that remind us why Hollywood and "Happily ever after" don't mix.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Socialite Kim Kardashian and NBA star Kris Humphries, who shared an extravagant multi-million dollar wedding, got divorced just 72 days after they tied the knot.
Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds
In 2008, Eddie Murphy married to entertainment executive Tracey Edmonds, but their marriage only lasted a total of two weeks. Murphy went on to star in "Meet Dave" and "A Thousand Words."
Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
Former Baywatch star Tara Patrick, a.k.a. Carmen Electra, eloped with NBA All-Star Dennis Rodman in Las Vegas in 1998. Their tumultuous relationship lasted just nine days.
Britney Spears and Jason Alexander
Speaking of Vegas, pop princess Britney Spears made headlines back in 2004 when she married Jason Alexander, a friend from her high school days, on a whim. She admitted it was a mistake two days later and divorced him.
Ali Landry and Mario Lopez
The pairing of Mario Lopez and Ali Landry seemed to be a match made in hotness heaven. But upon learning that Mario cheated on her just days before their wedding, Landry called it quits on their two-week anniversary.
