Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Saturday successfully underwent a surgery at a hospital in Mumbai.

Big B 's son and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan tweeted to his fans to give an  update on his father's health on Saturday afternoon.

"Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting," Abhishek tweeted.

A regular user of micro blogging sites and blogs, Big B continuously informed about his health condition through his blog posts.

He wished his fans for the wishes and prayers as he wrote in his blog: "I wish to thank all those that have most graciously sent in their concern and greetings for a speedy recovery. Your prayers shall go a long way in bringing me back to normal and for this I am always eternally grateful."

He wrote on Friday: "The early morning call for the surgery is early and the moment the doctors saw me operating my laptop, which is the first facility I ask for when I travel out, they have shown consternation and demanded that all this has to stop and that I should be in bed .. I will .. but not connecting with the Ef (extended family) is daunting and brings within me a certain dishonesty."

"So I shall keep this short and hopefully if all goes well inside the OT tomorrow morning shall be connecting again with all the family, the Ef."

Earlier, in another of his blog posts after revealing the news, he linked all his health problems as 'a legacy of the past in particular the accident of 1982 and Coolie' adding that the 'subsequent disturbances have all and shall emanate from it.'

He was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in 2002 and later in 2005 he was treated for perforated diverticula-holes in the wall of the intestine.

And again in 2008, the actor suffered problems in stomach due to incisional hernia.
