Mumbai Twin Blasts: H C Upholds Death Penalty

The Bombay High Court on Friday upheld the death sentence of three Lashkar-e-Taiba men convicted by a special POTA court earlier for the 2003 twin blasts in Mumbai that had killed 52 people and injured many.

In 2009, the POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) court had sentenced to death Mohammed Hanif Sayeed (46), his wife Fahmida (43) and Ashrat Ansari (32).

They were found guilty of planting bombs in cabs that blasted at the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar on Aug 25, 2003, claiming 52 lives. It had also injured around 250 people. 

The High Court dismissed the appeals by the convicts and upheld the death penalty. Defence counsel said they who would now move the Supreme Court.
