James W. von Brunn, who blogs on an anti-Jewish website called http://www.holywesternempire.org that contains anti-Semitic and racist rantings, shot a security guard at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday before being wounded when guards returned fire.

According to eyewitnesses, the first shot was heard around 1 p.m. and the shooting continued for about 15 minutes.

Stephanie Geraghty, 28, who had been visiting the museum, said the shooter appeared to be a white male carrying a silver gun.

"I heard the first shot, it sounded like something had been dropped from the upper stories down," Geraghty. "The next two came really fast - bam bam. At that point, everyone took off, chaos, running."

Like Geraghty, Angela Andelson, 22, who was visiting from San Francisco, said she heard five or six shots.
