While Bhupesh needed only a few stitches, the others were taken to PGI hospital in Chandigarh given their critical condition.

An injured Bhupesh told The Times of India, "It was around midnight when there was commotion on the ground floor of our house. When I came down, I spotted the robbers who had iron rods with them and my parents were lying in a pool of blood. Before I could react, one of them hit me and I fell unconscious.''

The children of the family were unharmed.

The gang of six assailants entered the house breaking the main lock of the gate and ravaged the house for around half an hour hour.

DSP Nirmal Singh of Kurkshetra said, "The modus operandi indicates that the gang is from Bawaria tribe. We have started investigation and are in the process of collecting records of similar cases in the past.''
