Both Great Britain and Argentina have confirmed their respective teams that will contest the semi-final of the 2016 Davis Cup. The reigning champions, who beat Serbia in the last eight, host Daniel Orsanics side on the hard court of Glasgows Emirates Arena from 16-18 September.

World No2 and 2015 Davis Cup hero Andy Murray, who faces Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals of the US Open on Wednesday night, returns to lead the hosts after travelling for Julys 3-2 win in Belgrade in a support role only having not long won his second Wimbledon title and with preparations for the successful defence of his Olympic singles crown ongoing.

Joining Dunblanes Murray in his native Scotland is elder brother Jamie and fellow doubles specialist Dom Inglot. Kyle Edmund, whose victories over Janko Tipsarevic and Dusan Lajovic carried Great Britain to victory over Serbia, unsurprisingly retains his place after continuing an impressive rise by beating both Richard Gasquet and John Isner at Flushing Meadows this week.

Dan Evans missed the last tie with a shoulder injury, but is back to replace James Ward after coming within one point of beating Stan Wawrinka in the third round of the US Open before losing in five sets. 22-year-old Liam Broady is also set to travel with the team, presumably to gain more experience.

Im delighted to name the five players for this semi-final tie, said British captain Leon Smith. It has been a great summer for the British players with Andy once again leading from the front and the performances from the players at the US Open gives us a lot of momentum going into the tie.‎

Argentina make one alteration to the team that sealed their 11th semi-final berth in just 15 years with a 3-1 defeat of Italy in Pesaro, with Leonardo Mayer replacing Juan Monaco. Injury-plagued 2009 US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro, who took silver in Rio after losing to Andy Murray in four sets and only played doubles against the Italians, continues alongside Federico Delbonis and Guido Pella. He plays Wawrinka at the US Open quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

Argentina boast a strong Davis Cup record against Great Britain, winning three of the four previous matches. Their last meeting came in the first round eight years ago, when the eventual beaten finalists triumphed 4-1 on clay in Buenos Aires against a visiting team comprised of Jamie Baker, Alex Bogdanovic, Jamie Murray and Ross Hutchins.
