The much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop was launched along with the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 on Wednesday but it may take some time before being rolled out to Google Play edition devices. Google hasn't announced the release date of the firmware but it is very likely to be made available for update when the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 are released next month.

It is confirmed that Google devices like Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and other Google Play edition devices will get Android 5.0 Lollipop, which was named Android L at the time of its announcement at I/O conference in June this year. Traditionally, Google stops software support on devices that are 18 months old but it has surprised many by announcing that the Nexus 4, which is almost two years old, will get the new firmware.

Motorola has confirmed on its official blog that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be rolled out to its devices like Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini. However, it said that they are still working out the details on timing and the upgrade.

HTC has confirmed that its devices like HTC One and HTC One (M8) will get Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade within 90 days of its release. HTC Desire Eye is also very likely to get the software upgrade though it is not confirmed yet.

Samsung devices like Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 may get Android 5.0 Lollipop later this year though the release date is not known. 

LG has not announced whether its devices will get the new software but Google is expected to roll out the firmware to its devices like LG G. CNet reported that it expect LG G3 and G2 Pro, the G2 and original G Pro to get the update. 

OnePlus One will also get the new software update within three months of its release. Mike, Administrator of OnePlus forum has confirmed that the firmware will be rolled out to the device saying, "We promise to have it done within three months of their releasing a final build." 

Sony is still silent on whether its devices will get the new firmware update but it is almost certain that it will happen at some point of time. CNet reported that Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, and Xperia Z2 Compact may get Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
