It's been only few hours since Sony released the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update to Xperia Z and ZR; now the company has begun rolling out Google's sweet candy flavoured mobile firmware to some more devices through OTA (Over-The-Air).

Technology website Xperia Blog has confirmed that the new Android 5.0.2 Lollipop (build number: 10.6.A.0.454) has been released via OTA to Xperia ZL variants - HSPA+ C6502 (Taiwan) and LTE C6506 (USA) and also to Tablet Z models in Taiwan (SGP311, SGP321), Hong Kong (SGP321) and USA (SGP351).

If Xperia Z series device owners are getting the update notifications, they should select - "Yes, Download" option >>; after downloading, they should select >> "Install now." The phone will restart automatically and the OS will be updated to the new version.

Until then, users can also check manually on the smartphone by going to – 'Settings' >> 'About phone' >> 'System update' >> 'Check Now';

The new update is around 1.2GB in size. The new Android 5.0.2 Lollipop brings in a new design language - "Material Design", with interactive user interface, lots of animation graphics and lock-screen notification options. The replacement of Dalvik with ART as default runtime will bring improvement in performance-and-battery-life enhancement and many more features.

Other noteworthy improvements include option to transfer apps from phone flash memory to SD card and multi-user profiles (work, private & guest).

With the release of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to Xperia ZL and Tablet Z, Sony has fulfilled the promise of upgrading the entire Xperia Z (unlocked) legacy series devices.

The list includes include Sony Xperia Z3, Z2, Xperia Z Ultra GPE (Google Play Edition), Xperia Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1s, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, , Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet, Xperia Tablet Z, and Xperia Z2 Tablet.

But, US-based network carrier T-Mobile is yet to release the update to locked version of Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z1s. The good news is that Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware for the aforementioned devices has just entered testing phase, hinting that the wait for the update in the USA might end by the end of this month or June.
