Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) have won majority seats in the elections held to Zilla Parishat Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and Mandal Parishat Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) in Andhra Pradesh (AP) in April.

The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission on 14 May announced the results to the ZPTC and MPTC elections. In Seemandhra, TDP has won 373 seats, among the 653 ZPTCs. Jagan Mohan Reddy-headed YSRCP has won 275 seats, Congress won two seats, the other parties category won a seat and independent candidates have won two seats.

The EC had conducted polls to a total 10,092 MPTCs in Seemandhra, in which TDP has 5,216 seats, YSRCP won 4,199 seats, Congress won 172 seats, CPM won 24 seats, CPI won 14, BJP won 18 and independents won 428 seats.

In the Telangana region of AP, the state EC has announced results to 440 ZPTCs of the total 443. Among the 440 ZPTCs, KRS has won 191, Congress won 176, TDP bagged 53, YSRCP won 6, BJP won 4, CPM and CPI have won 2 each and independents have won 5 seats.

In MPTCs category of Telangana region, the EC has announced results to 6,467 constituencies of the total 6,525. Among the 6,467 MPTCs, Congress has won 2,351, TRS 1,860, TDP 1061, BJP 275, CPM 145, YSRCP 121, CPI 80, BSP 28, Lok Satta 1, other parties 23 and independents 500 seats.

Meanwhile, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who was buoyed with the party's majority winning in the local bodies' elections in the Seemandhra region, expressed his gratitude to the people.

The party's success in the local bodies' polls was possible mainly due to rural people and farmers, Naidu stressed. He reiterated the party's promise to strengthen the local bodies and develop them in all ways.

Naidu is also expecting a majority of seats in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, to which polls were held in April and May, with the results set to be out on Friday.
