All talent seeking reality television shows have some amount of shocking elements with some of them thrive on controversies, and "America's Got Talent" Season 11 is no different. The semifinals 1 results of the show will disappoint many, as a few interesting acts have been eliminated on Wednesday.

The semifinals 1 result was shocking to say the least. In fact, it will make many question the value of a "standing ovation" for the simple reason that some of the acts that judges – Mel B, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum – applauded were sent home. The drama unfolded when family band Edgar, opera singer Laura Bretan and mime comedian Tape Face were up for America's votes to stay in the competition.

The first act announced during the results episode to be moving to the finals was Grace VanderWaal, who wooed the audience with her original song "Light The Sky" in the semifinals. Jazz singer Sal Valentinetti, who sang "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra on Tuesday, and close-up magician Jon Dorenbos too advanced to the finals.

The fourth act moving to the finals was Tape Face. His balloon act in the semifinals didn't impress the judges but America wanted him. It left Edgar and Laura Bretan in the fray for the judges' save. Howie Mandel voted for Edgar, but it was Laura Bretan who progressed to the finals having earned the votes of Heidi, Simon Cowell and Mel B.

Interestingly, Edgar received a standing ovation from the judges for their rendition of "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts in the semifinals. Dance troupe Malevo also got a standing ovation from all the judges on Tuesday, but they were shown the door. One of the acts that many will miss is the Deadly Games, comprising of husband and wife, who put up a breath-taking stunt on Tuesday. Mel B described it as the "best performance of the night," but they were eliminated.

Going by the performance in the semifinals, acts like Musicality, Lori Mae Hernandez, Tape Face and Blake Vogt perhaps deserve to be eliminated from the competition but not the Deadly Games, or Edgar or Malevo.

However, disappointment is part of the game, and the show will go on.
