American Music Awards 2014 (AMA) witnessed some of the biggest acts of the industry on Sunday night with performances from One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Iggy Azalea among others.

While entertaining the world with their performances, AMA did not forget to honour the artists for their contribution to the music industry.

One Direction bagged three awards, including "Artist of the Year", "Favorite Album - Pop/Rock" and "Favorite Band, Duo Or Group - Pop/Rock".

Though the British boy band was expecting recognition for their performances, winning three awards came as a surprise to them. "I can't believe we've won three, it's amazing, it's so cool," Mirror quoted Liam Payne.

Meanwhile, Iggy Azalea took home two awards at the AMA 2014 in Los Angeles, including "Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist." On the other hand, Taylor Swift received the newly introduced "Dick Clark Award of Excellence" from music legend Diana Ross.

"What you did by going out and investing in music and albums is you are saying that you believe in the same thing that I believe in: that music is valuable and music should be consumed in albums and albums should be consumed as art and appreciated," said Swift.
