Krishnashtami is the celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna and this festival is celebrated every year on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the Shravana (August–September) month, according to the Hindu calendar. People across the world fast and perform special prayers at midnight. Rasa Lila is performed and the traditional Dahi Handi event is also held in some parts of the country.
