Police have arrested India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane's father, Madhukar Baburao Rahane, who was involved in an accident on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway in Kolhapur. The car, in which he was travelling, hit a woman, who has reportedly died.

The accident immediately led to the attention of the people nearby, and the 67-year old woman was taken to the government hospital. However, the woman, identified as Ashatai Kamble, was declared dead at the hospital, succumbing to her injuries, on Friday (December 15), local media reported.

Though there is no clarity as to who was the person behind the wheel when the accident happened, some reports claim it was Madhukar. A case has been registered by police under IPC Sections 304A, 337, 338, 289 and 184.

Madhukar, 54, was travelling in their Hyundai i20 along with Ajinkya's mother and sister. They were going for a family vacation, and were heading towards Tarkarli, Konkan.

However, Madhukar has been granted bail now.

According to a police officer, Kamble was standing in the middle of the road.

"The deceased was apparently standing in the middle of the road when Mr. Rahane, unable to swerve the car on time, rammed her," "The Hindu" quoted a police officer as saying.

Rahane is presently with the India squad for the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Vishakapathnam.
